Chapter Twenty-Seven

Reuniting and Reconciliation

Pillow talk with a member of the Dayni turned out to be a little different than I was used to.

For starters, the bower we lay on was perfectly comfortable, but didn’t come with any pillows. That said, Loralynn didn’t have any objections. After climaxing together, she’d cleaned us both off with a washcloth and then cuddled up next to me. She seemed more than comfortable laying her head on my arm.

“Mmmm….” she murmured, “Nogen har holdt…one of the sisters have been keeping the secret really well.”

“That secret being?” I ventured, as I played with a stray plait of her hair. The little bell entwined within made a little chime as I did so.

“As I said before, we are destined, Dante. The clerics before me always spoke of duty. The rare duty that comes when we dryads emerge from the forest and take interest in the world beyond our island.”

Loralynn paused, tightened her arms around me, and then shivered with delight.

“But,” she continued, “they never said that this aspect of fertilization would be so pleasurable. Unless it is like this with everyone? I somehow doubt it, though. You showed more restraint and…I suppose it would be…more tenderness than any human I’ve met.”

“If a man knows what he is doing, then it can be that good,” I admitted. “Rather, it should be that good. When two become one, physically. There is that destiny thing that might be at work. But we always have the final choice in the matter. At least that’s what Entara told me.”

“We do,” she said, without hesitation. “And I choose you, Dante.”

Once again, my heart glowed at her admission. Maybe it was post-coital bliss. Or the destiny thing at work, the ‘Master of Swords’ angle. Or what Loralynn herself had alluded to.

“It is funny,” I mused. “You described Silvanius as the ‘father’, the ‘proud and erect forest’. On the other hand, Entara is the one of the bountiful bosom and fertile fields. Male and female. Only their representatives – you and me – got switched around.”

She pursed her lips in thought. “Admittedly, that’s the way prophecies work. It’s trentlig, something vague and inexact. For example, after the final battle of the War of a Million Tears…it was said that a Master of Swords would retrieve the lost Swordmaidens. Nothing was said of the century-long wait for that to happen.”

I nodded. Her words brought me back around to one of the big questions I’d had at the start of our meeting. Yes, Loralynn’s sexual appeal had trumped my thought process. But what other guys called ‘post nut clarity’ finally had my brain getting back on track.

“Speaking of that war,” I said, “there’s still not a lot known about what happened. The other three Swordmaidens I located…they were all stuck in their sword form. You, on the other hand, were up and about, killing Rivolian Guardsmen.”

“They trampled the ground, broke live trees down, and started a huge fire,” Loralynn pointed out. “We defend our woods against all who dishonor it, Rivolian or otherwise.
